A Virginia man has been sentenced to over 30 years in prison for funneling cryptocurrency to ISIS, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Mohammed Azharuddin Chhipa, 35, raised more than $185,000 between 2019 and 2022, using social media to solicit donations. The funds were converted into crypto and sent to support female ISIS members in detention camps and active fighters.

Chhipa’s operation was deliberate and far-reaching. Court documents reveal he traveled extensively to collect cash donations, later converting them into digital assets. The case underscores the ongoing challenge of tracking illicit crypto flows to terrorist organizations.
